blood testes have been done and he is doing amazingly... his values
are almost normal. just a couple more to get back in the normal game.
he is still on baytril and got to stop the fluids yesterday.. yea!
another fun blood test for my boy next week. i hate that he has to
have those. blood is taken from his neck while i hold and calm him.
he is such a good boy.. we were VERY lucky.... he was supposed to be a
gonner...... the force is with us... keep it coming jedi's........ >> Stay informed about: harley update.. :) |

That's excellent news! When the vet took a blood sample from my Harlie she
took it from her ear. Why do they take it from the neck? Continued vibes for
Harley.

anthony. the veins in the ear can collapse alot easier than the ones
in the neck. plus they are alot easier to get blood out of. the are
alot larger. harley has been so good about it all. though he as had
enough.. he beats me up now... >> Stay informed about: harley update.. :) |

The rabbit's ears have blood vessels that come extremely close to the
surface. They act as a heat exchange to cool the rabbit. Although I
don't think it's current practice, anesthetic can be applied to the ears
of a rabbit. My Vet gave me that for Jump some seven years ago when he
was neutered. I believe the blood flows right at the surface in the
rabbits ears. The blood vessels in the neck are probably larger, but I
agree, taking blood from the neck makes me nervous. True, I did stick
needles in Zolo when I gave him sub-Q. fluids, but I'm pretty sure I
would not be a veterinarian. I have a good deal of respect for people
like Ronie.
