I don't know about "repeatedly", but Pepper has a history of digging
things out of the trash to eat, chew on, or play with. Most common
are empty bottles or tubes that may still smell yummy, used paper
cups, and used tea bags. I'm not sure how much tea she eats and how
much she just scatters around, but she seems to love the stuff.
I try to be careful because she got a sample packet of orange-flavored
metamucil once out of the trash - nibbled it up and blew herself up
like a fuzzy little balloon with gas. Spent a worried night with
simethecone and tummy rubs on that one.
I know that The Phooka has hopped into a swing-top trash can once,
apparently after peanut shells. Cam heard a sound, went to
investigate, and there was a floofy nose peering out of the window...

Now you're gone have to be careful what you throw the waste basket.

I throw my trash in a bag that hangs above the sink. Newcomers to the
house ask, "Why is the garbage up there?" I simply replied, "Rabbits".
LOL I think that's the first thing I learned. LOL.

Bruce, in my experience, it's a given that rabbits want to be where you
do not want them to be and to do what you do not want them to do.
They also crave attention-- even negative attention!
